In August, ResourceMate, the company that handles the library data, has the Big Rock Library catalog ONLINE. (Yes, we do have one copy of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child.) You will be allowed to put books on hold and request to renew things you have already checked out. This is a giant leap for us. Now you can log in online at your convenience to check for materials. We want the library to be available to you wherever you are.

BOOK DISCUSSION GROUP - Last Monday of every other month at 6:30 pm. Schedule will continue on September 26th and November 28th
ONE BOOK GROUP - Our newest book group will only discuss one book and will meet on the Last Thursday of every other month at 6:30 pm. Readers of Broken Wheel Recommend, by Katarina Bivald will be discussed on August 25th. The by will be on October 25th.
NATIVE AMERICAN AND NATURAL HISTORY DISPLAY - continues upstairs at the Library during Library hours. The "Sacred Pipe" display will be dismantled soon.
Next BIG BOOK SALE will be held on September 16
2016 SUMMER READING PROGRAM, "Read for the Win" . Celebrating achievement began on May 23rd, rewards began on June 13th. The program finished on July 30th.
KNITTING FOR A CAUSE - Knitting for Your Cause is an informal chance to get together to make items for charity - - hats, scarves or gloves for the homeless, cancer caps, or baby blankets for hospitals, etc.. Our Thursday evening volunteers is willing to teach people to knit if you've always wanted to learn to knit. We have a yarn donation to use for whatever cause you choose to do. It's a social time to enjoy conversation and meet your neighbors. For the Younger children has been changed to 1st and 3rd Thursday morning at 10:45 am. Come enjoy a story or two, a craft, and an indoor or outdoor parade with shakers, tambourines, and bells. We will be continue to have a "Book Review". Just bring in your favorite book and review it. The Book Discussion will be every other month on the last Monday, July 25th and September 26th. When trying to decide what to read next, the library feels these books bits (good & bad) will give participants some ideas for what to read next. We will be discussing any book that you have enjoyed - Fiction or Non-Fiction. Anything to do with books and reading. Bring a book that you have read and liked, and share a short verbal summary. Tell us what you liked about it - maybe someone else would enjoy reading it too!

We are the Recycled Library From our 1908 House to our 7000 books. We even have a recycling bin for paper and lght cardboard on the site. Please check the Big Rock Historical Society website, we are working on helping you find a place to recycle many other household items. Good news, shredded paper in plastic or paper bags will be accepted. Did you see the sign in front of the Library??? By your recycling, we have SAVED 671 TREES!!! THANK YOU BIG ROCK Are you interested in beginning computer (Word or Excel) or beginning Internet classes for adults? Call the Library at 630-556-3604 if you are interesed. Class limited to 3 people per sessions. We have been having a very basic computer class on Tues. mornings. Planning an evening class (hopefully on Wednesday) in 2013. There is lots of value to your local Library. Stop by and get acquainted.
