The Big Rock Historical Society extends A Special Thank You to the Community Foundation of the Fox River Valley for the grant for the new porch deck and steps for our Library.

MORE NEW NEWS...INTERLIBRARY LOAN.The Big Rock Library is excited to announce Interlibrary Loan is now available to our patrons. If we do not have a book or other materials you are seeking in our collection, just fill out a blue reuest form (available at the information desk) and we will order your request from another,library. Materials are delivered every Thursday. Due dates are determined by the lending library but are usually 3-4 weeks from the shipping date.

AND MORE NEW NEWS .. A thank you to our local Lions Club of their recent donation of a magnifying floor lamp. It has bright daylight LED lights and a large vewing surface, It has a very convenient design and is easly to operate. You are welcome to try one out at the Big Rock Library. The magnifier is very helpful for reading fine print, doing needlework or assembling intricate models, doing crosswords, sorting coin or stamp collections or for any other fine work. Thank you Lions Club members for addressing vision problems in our community.

CALENDAR OF UPCOMING EVENTS:

2020 SUMMER READING - will begin after school ends next spring. Big Rock Library card is required.

Special Event - Brown Baggin' It for Easy and Affordable Health. Do you purchase lunches each day and see your waistline growing and your pocketbook shrinking? Or, has packing a lunch every day for work or for your children become quick but less than healthy? Come to this free event at the Big Rock Library, presented by Certified Health Coach Virginia Waterstreet to learn how to easily create cheaper, healthier, and more satisfying brown bag lunches. You will receive a bagful of helpful information; healthy swaps, delicious recipes, meal planning guide and more. Monday, October 7 at 7pm at the Big Rock Library. 2020 SUMMER READING PROGRAMstarts on .. and ends on ..

KNITTING FOR A CAUSE - Knitting for Your Cause is an informal chance to get together to make items for charity - - hats, scarves or gloves for the homeless, cancer caps, or baby blankets for hospitals, etc.. Our Thursday evening volunteers is willing to teach people to knit if you've always wanted to learn to knit. We have a yarn donation to use for whatever cause you choose to do. It's a social time to enjoy conversation and meet your neighbors. Story Time:

For the Younger children has been changed to 1st and 3rd Thursday morning at 10:45 am. Come enjoy a story or two, a craft, and an indoor or outdoor parade with shakers, tambourines, and bells. We will be continue to have a "Book Review". Just bring in your favorite book and review it. The Book Discussion will be every other month on the last Monday, November 25th and January 27th. When trying to decide what to read next, the library feels these books bits (good & bad) will give participants some ideas for what to read next. We will be discussing any book that you have enjoyed - Fiction or Non-Fiction. Anything to do with books and reading. Bring a book that you have read and liked, and share a short verbal summary. Tell us what you liked about it - maybe someone else would enjoy reading it too!

The newest One Book Group will meeting on the last Thursday evening of every other month. We will be discussing . ?? at 6:30 pm. The group will meet on the last Thursday evening of every other month ... 

Ladies Night Out will not be limited to Ladies. All are welcome. See above STEALTH HEALTH

We are the Recycled Library From our 1908 House to our 9000 books. We even have a recycling bin for paper on the site. Please check the Big Rock Historical Society website, we are working on helping you find a place to recycle many other household items. THANK YOU BIG ROCK

In August, ResourceMate, the company that handles the library data, has the Big Rock Library catalog ONLINE. (Yes, we do have one copy of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child.) You will be allowed to put books on hold and request to renew things you have already checked out. This is a giant leap for us. Now you can log in online at your convenience to check for materials. We want the library to be available to you wherever you are.

Library Card Donation
The Library was officially Ten years old on July 26, 2019. Annual card donation renewals currently remain at $10 for an individual card.

We have some new volunteers that will begin their training soon. Please call Mary Hauge if you have a couple of hours a week or a month that you have time to volunteer at the desk at 630-556-3604

Plowing Match Celebration
The Plowing Match is a time of celebration. We look forward to September 18, 19, & 20, 2020 for the 126th Plowing Match.
